Review: New Disney Store App

The Disney Store has just made it much easier to hand over your paycheck to Disney anytime, anywhere. The new Disney Store app for smart phones and the iPad was made available for download today. It’s a Free pick up at the app store, so I grabbed it and took it for a test run.

To find the app, just search “Disney Store” in the app store or go to m.disneystore.com on your mobile device. The download and install is very quick. Once downloaded, the Home page is very straight forward with three “slider” sections with a menu bar located at the bottom.

The top slider is reserved for a welcome screen, ads with the latest deals (such as the free shipping code) and featured merchandise. The middle slider shows the categories guests are used to from the website including Characters, Girls, Boys, Baby, Adult, Toys & Games, Pins, Art & Collectibles, Theme Park, Home & Decor, DVDs, Music & Books, Sale Items and more. No Vinylmation-by-itself category yet, but they are located under the Collectibles slider.  It’s a great interface that is very intuitive for any smart phone user.

While scrolling through the categories, the pictures under it change and give different specific items to choose from.

That area slides too, so you can browse thumbnails of featured items in that category. Just click on the category to get more sortable options and/or a list of items.

The list shows a thumbnail photo and the price of the item. You can also, from the home page… Continue reading

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay Launches New Park App

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is putting the park in the guests’ hands by launching an interactive iPhone and Android application. The free app is now available in the iTunes App Store and will be coming soon to the Android Market.

This will be the first time that Busch Gardens has utilized GPS technology to guide guests through the park. The free app is designed to make the guest experience even better by giving them park details at their fingertips and helping them get the most out of their day.
An interactive map will show guests where they are in the park and allow them to highlight the quickest real -time route to their next destination by clicking the “Take Me There” button on any destination page. Whether the destination is a restaurant, show, roller coaster or animal habitat, the app can give details on its location, menu, restrictions, wait times and more. Guests can also search for the nearest restrooms, lockers and ATMs.
It will be as easy as searching the word “Cheetah” to find a path to the new Cheetah Run habitat. Guests can find fun facts about our animals and even snap a few photos without leaving the application by using the in-app camera. They can also connect to social media sites to share their photos with friends and keep up with Busch Gardens’ Facebook and Twitter feeds.

How’s That New Universal Orlando App?

Hey new Universal Orlando app, welcome to my smart phone. Nice to see you join my collection of theme park navigation tools that I carry around in my pocket. Today, Universal Orlando unvieled it’s FREE iPhone and Android app to the world. Having talked about Universal’s social media and interactive presense the past few week on the Eye on Orlando Radio Show, I immediatly went to the app store and downloaded it. Let’s take a look inside.

It’s main features are an interactive park map, attraction information, dining locations, and a “Check In” game for Facebook. But does it all work as advertised? First off, its GPS enabled. It has you “allow your current location” at start up. It’s comforting to know I live precisely 27 miles away from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Noticeably missing are Park Hours. Also, show times are not in one location, but found only if you click on that specific show. Not very user friendly when trying to plan the day. Honestly, the interface overall is a bit clunky. It’s not something that is visually appealing. I don’t feel I can just jump right in and start playing around. A good app shouldn’t make me waist time figuring out where to click to figure out where I want to go. Also, the odd thing about this app, is I all too easily jump out of the Universal Orlando part of the app. Numerous times, after a click of a button, I was tossed into a Google… Continue reading
