2012 Summer Concert Series

Universal Orlando Resort is unveiling even more powerhouse performers that will take the stage at the 2012 Summer Concert Series. Every Saturday night beginning June 9 through July 14, Universal Studio Florida will host one of the hottest concert series around, featuring a star-studded lineup that will appeal to fans of every music genre.

This year, music lovers can expect live performances from classic rock to chart-topping country hits, from mainstream hip hop to soulful R&B. Newly announced performers include Rock and Roll Legends Hall of Famer Al Green, who’s recorded timeless hits like “Let’s Stay Together” and “I’m Still in Love with You;” country star Josh Turner, who has topped the U.S. country charts with singles like “All Over Me” and “Why Don’t We Just Dance;” and Grammy award-winning rapper Lupe Fiasco, who has collaborated with other hit-makers like Kanye West, Snoop Dogg and Jay-Z.

These new additions join previously announced musical acts, including the cast of Nickelodeon’s hit TV series, “Victorious,” on June 9, and rock bands ZZ Top and 3 Doors Down on June 16. The full Summer Concert Series lineup is below, and the final musical act will be announced at a later date.

Stars in Parks

Legendary rocker and former lead guitarist of Guns N’ Roses, Slash, was hosted by Universal Orlando Resort on May 8, 2012 where he experienced Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit – a roller coaster that allows guests to choose the soundtrack for their ride. During his ride, he rocked out to ZZ Top’s “Gimme All Your Lovin’.” Best known for guitar solos in timeless hits like “November Rain” and “Sweet Child O’Mine,” Slash enjoyed both Universal Orlando theme parks after a live performance at Hard Rock Live during his North American tour with Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators.

On May 8, 2012, Universal Orlando Resort celebrated the grand opening of Universal’s Superstar Parade – an entirely new form of entertainment that combines wildly creative floats with hundreds of performers to create whole new levels of fun and excitement. The all-new, daily parade opened along with Universal’s Cinematic Spectacular – 100 Years of Movie Memories – a new nighttime show that takes guests on a journey filled with powerful movie moments. Universal’s Superstar Parade and Cinematic Spectacular – 100 Years of Movie Memories officially opens today at Universal Orlando Resort – bringing two brand-new kinds of entertainment experiences to Universal’s guests.

The new experiences are the latest in Universal Orlando’s “Year to be Here” – during which Universal is creating more new entertainment experiences across its entire destination than any other year in its history. The year began with a newly enhanced Blue Man Group Show at Universal CityWalk, continued with the high-tech re-launch of The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man at Universal’s Islands of Adventure and will continue with the launch of the new Despicable Me Minion Mayhem attraction at Universal Studios Florida this summer.

Universal’s Superstar Parade brings an entirely new form of entertainment to Universal Studios that combines wildly creative floats with hundreds of performers to create whole new levels of fun and excitement. Universal’s Cinematic Spectacular – 100 Years of Movie Memories is a nighttime show that unfolds across Universal Studios’ central lagoon, taking guests on a journey filled with powerful movie moments – stirring both emotion and imagination.

Universal – Florida residents offer

Universal Orlando Resort is unveiling an exclusive Florida residents offer, just in time for guests to experience the next round of new entertainment being created at Universal Orlando during 2012.

Universal Orlando’s new Third Day Free offer gives Florida residents a 2-day, 2-park ticket plus a third day free for only $99 – giving them more value and more time to enjoy everything Universal Orlando has to offer – including the newly re-launched, The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man attraction. They will also be among the first to experience Universal’s Superstar Parade and Universal’s Cinematic Spectacular: 100 Years of Movie Memories.

This June, Universal Orlando Resort’s 2012 Summer Concert Series will feature a diverse lineup of powerhouse performers, beginning with some of the biggest names in the music business. Orlando’s hottest summer event will kick off with live concerts by the talented cast of Nickelodeon’s hit TV series, “Victorious,” on Sat., June 9, and rock bands ZZ Top and 3 Doors Down on Sat., June 16. Additional performing acts will be announced at a later date.

Cast of “Victorious” To Perform June 9

The cast of Nickelodeon’s smash hit TV series, “Victorious,” will get the party started at Universal Studios Florida on June 9. Theme park guests will also have the opportunity to preview upcoming episodes and participate in live Q&A sessions with members of the cast. The event will culminate with an incredible music performance by the entire cast – including Victoria Justice, who plays the show’s main character, Tori Vega.

Currently in its third season, “Victorious” follows teenager Tori Vega as she navigates life at Hollywood Arts, a prestigious performing arts high school. The show, a co-production with Sony Music, features original songs performed by Victoria Justice and the show’s ensemble cast. Cyndi Lauper @ Mardi Gras

This Saturday night, Cyndi Lauper will take guests back to the time of colorful scrunchies and leg warmers at Universal Orlando’s Mardi Gras celebration.

Cyndi Lauper burst onto the scene as the 80’s “it girl” with her first album, “She’s So Unusual,” which won her a Grammy award for Best New Artist. The album’s most notable hits include “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” and “Time After Time.” With the success of that album, Lauper became the first female artist in history to have five Top Ten singles from a debut album. Since then, Lauper’s been nominated for 14 Grammy Awards, two Emmy Awards, two American Music Awards, seven American Video Awards and 18 MTV Awards. Her most recent album, “Memphis Blues,” debuted in 2010 at No. 1 on the Billboard Blues Albums Chart.

Universal Orlando’s Mardi Gras combines unparalleled theme park entertainment with an elaborate Mardi Gras parade, dozens of colorfully costumed performers, authentic New Orleans bands, delicious Cajun cuisine and live concerts by some of today’s most popular artists. GRAND OPENING FOR NEW SUPERSTAR PARADE AND CINEMATIC SPECTACULAR

Universal Orlando has set a joint grand opening date for two new spectacularly entertaining guest experiences. The new Universal’s Superstar Parade and Universal’s Cinematic Spectacular: 100 Years of Movie Memories will have their grand opening on May 8.

Both experiences follow this year’s re-opening of The Blue Man Group Show, the re-launch of The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man and the opening of the new Hollywood Drive-In Miniature Golf experience at Universal Citywalk. They will be followed by this summer’s launch of Universal Orlando’s newest blockbuster ride – Despicable Me Minion Mayhem.

Universal’s Cinematic Spectacular: 100 Years of Movie Memories will present some of the world’s best and most popular films in an innovative, high-tech symphony of imagery, light, sound and special effects. The show highlights some of the most fun, dramatic, awe-inspiring moments from nearly 200 films – representing approximately 300 Academy Award nominations and 100 Academy Award winners.

Stars in the Parks – Richard Gere

On March 29, 2012, Golden Globe award-winning actor Richard Gere and his wife, Carey Lowell, vacationed at Universal Orlando Resort. During their hosted visit, the couple experienced iconic theme park attractions, including The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man, The Simpsons Ride and Revenge of the Mummy, and explored The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Gere is best known for iconic films such as “Pretty Woman,” “An Officer and a Gentleman” and “Chicago” and stars opposite Susan Sarandon in the upcoming film, “Arbitrage.”
